Gaston College’s New Online Student Orientation Site is live at www.gastoncollegeonline.com. Students at Gaston College now have the opportunity to complete their entire orientation process virtually. This method allows students to fit orientation into their increasingly busy schedules. Moreover, the new online registration system solidifies Gaston College’s investment in enhancing the flexibility of the services which they offer to their students in this evolving information technology laden age.
The New Online Student Orientation Website was design by Charlotte web design and marketing firm Web Full Circle. Web Full Circle designed the website, which was designed using PHP, to allow students to replace the previous orientation method which required students to come to the campus and also required for the orientation process to be monitored to ensure attendance. Using the new Web Full Circle designed application, the administration system tracks who has attended the orientation and also sends out a remember message to remind those who has not completed the orientation that the deadline is looming. Web Full Circle developed the application so that the application monitors the progression of the students as they complete the viewing of five videos on subjects ranging from resources to money matters. At the end of each section of the video, Web Full Circle programmed review questions in order to gauge a specific level of comprehension from the user. Once the user completes the videos and their respective questions, the viewer then is given a registration date. Web Full Circle programmed the application so that the administrator can set up the registration date as well as the number of students who can register on each date. Ultimately, this new website and the application both designed by Web Full Circle provide Gaston College with a cost-saving tools and provide Gaston College students with more flexibility. Moreover, the videos also serve as a long-term resource for students, as student can log back in at a later date to review the videos.
In keeping with the progressive mindset of Gaston College, Web Full Circle also included in the application an automated PowerPoint Conversion script which allows the online videos to be easily replaced by simply uploading them and clicking on an icon which translates the PowerPoint into Flash Video which is then updates the current video. From a purely aesthetic standpoint, Web Full Circle designed a website for Gaston College which is both professional as well as visually pleasing, which is all in addition to high-level functionality provided by the custom designed application.
